About MIKO
A hospitality interior design studio in York, PA — serving Lancaster, Harrisburg, Baltimore, and the towns in between.
MIKO Interior Design is a commercial interior design studio led by Rae Lilley, focused on boutique hotels, restaurants, and the independent hospitality businesses reshaping their downtowns. We believe great design isn't just about how a space looks — it's about how it makes a guest feel the moment they walk in.
From first concept to opening night, we work hand-in-hand with owners, architects, and contractors to turn ordinary venues into spaces worth coming back to.
Meet Rae Lilley
Founder + Lead Interior Designer
In 2006, against her parents' better judgment, Rae left her small town to study Interior Design at Philadelphia University, a CIDA-accredited program. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and spent six months studying abroad at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) in Milan.
Armed with AutoCAD and the optimism only a 22-year-old can possess, she went to work for high-end residential firms whose projects appeared in House Beautiful, Southern Living, Philadelphia Magazine, and Architectural Digest.
But it was in hospitality that everything clicked. At SLDesign and later Rohe Creative, Rae spent over a decade designing for boutique restaurateurs and major hoteliers alike — including Brookfield Properties, Kimpton-IHG, JDV by Hyatt, and Marriott — across Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C.
In 2023, she brought that experience home to York, PA, where she now leads MIKO Interior Design. Whether the project is a 23-key boutique hotel or a single-room renovation, the goal is always the same: create a space that gives guests a reason to remember it.
When she's not on a job site, Rae lives in York with her husband and two small children, serves on the Board of Directors for the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, and chairs the Interior Design Committee for the Country Club of York.

The Story Behind The Name
MIKO is named for our hero — Grandma Sumiko Koide Walker.
A survivor of the Hiroshima bombing, Sumiko later built a family from scratch in the rural mountains of West Virginia. Everything she did was done fiercely. She taught us to be the best at what we do, to be kind, and — in her words — to take no bullsh*t.
That attitude is the spirit of this studio. It's in every room we design and every client we work with. We are honored to carry her name.
